A |     (ECNS) -- China recorded improvements in both air and water quality in the first seven months of 2026, with average PM2.5 concentrations falling 6.2% year on year, Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu said Thursday.    The average concentration of fine particulate matter, or PM2.5, fell by 1.8 micrograms per cubic meter from a year earlier, while the proportion of days with good air quality increased by 3.9 percentage points, Huang said at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office.         The proportion of surface-water monitoring sections meeting Grade I-III water quality standards reached 86.5%, up 2.4 percentage points year on year. B |     Paris, Oct 13 (UNI) Soaring energy prices have been driving up costs for cremation in France, with prices expected to rise by more than a third next year, media reported on Thursday.
French news channel BFMTV cited estimates of funeral cost tracking service MPF which show that the price of gas accounts for 15% to 25% of the funeral price.
Cremation costs may reportedly rise 35% next year to the average 911 euros ($887). Cremation costs ranged between 605 and 675 euros before energy shortages became a problem.
Cremation has until recently been a cheaper alternative to a burial but large funeral firms, which are not eligible for energy subsidies, are expected to pass the bills for the soaring gas prices on to the bereaved.
